Tiny Guests, Big Charm - Quail at Titoki

A little family of quail has made itself at home here at Titoki Vineyards, and we’ve been loving every moment of watching them scuttle past us. These tiny, delightful birds have been exploring the vineyard for a few weeks now, and their playful antics never fail to bring a smile.

One thing that’s been particularly interesting to notice is the role of the male quail. In the pictures, you can often spot the adult male close to the chicks, guiding them, keeping an eye out, and occasionally leading them to safer spots or food. Quail families can be surprisingly attentive, with the males helping protect and shepherd the youngsters while the females are busy foraging. It’s fascinating to watch how he nudges them along, gently encouraging them to explore while staying close to the safety of the group.

They’ve also developed a bit of a fondness for our door mats — often pausing for a moment or two and occasionally leaving behind the tiniest little “presents” to let us know they’ve been by.

We look forward to seeing how they continue to grow and interact as the season unfolds. Watching them has been a wonderful reminder of how much wildlife enriches the vineyard and how lucky we are to share the land with these little visitors.
